2017 Legislation

Check out some of the legislation I am working on during this legislative session. 

HCR 13
Recognizes and designates official tartan of the State of Oregon. 

HB 2652
Provides funding opportunities for school districts to receive state reimbursements for local district costs incurred through the Community Eligibility Provision of the National School Lunch Act.

HB 2651
Includes class size as a mandatory bargaining subject for school districts.

HB 2649
Directs State Board of Education to adopt a rule complaint process to report school district policy in violation of state law prohibiting harassment, intimidation, bullying, and cyberbullying.

HB 2648
Adds school social worker to list of professions included in school-based system for which school district may receive funds for decreasing absenteeism.

HB 2656
Provide tax relief to public school educators by allowing up to a $250 tax deduction on Oregon taxes for educators who make personal expenditures for supplies related to in-classroom learning.

HB 2657
Creates task force of stakeholders and directs task force to develop a plan to address out of school youth and provide opportunities for school re-engagement and/or alternative opportunities in the workforce.

HB 2658
Establishes pilot program to increase number of social workers in public schools who can assist districts in serving students who experience trauma. Pilot program sunsets June 30, 2012.

HB 2845
Directs Department of Education to create advisory group tasked with developing state wide social studies standards that incorporate ethnic studies standards for public K-12 schools.

SB 746
Establishes Superintendent of Public Instruction as a statewide elected office and requires six members of the State Board of Education be elected in a statewide election.

SB 706
Directs Department of Education to administer pilot program to provide professional development and instructional resources to component school districts through ESD.
